    Ingredient information:

SESAME SEED STICKS - In my grocery store, I find the sesame sticks in the produce department, near the fresh nuts and snacks, but I've also seen them in the snack aisle in certain stores. If you can't readily find them in your market, I suggest inquiring with your grocer, or you can always purchase them online.

GARLIC RYE CHIPS - Always my favorite part of Gardetto's original snack mix, did you know you can now purchase bags strictly of the garlic rye chips? It's also proof that I'm not the only one that loves these delicious little rye chips! We should start a club!

SHELLED PISTACHIOS - Put a bowl of pistachios in front of me and I'm a happy camper! For this recipe, I used lightly salted, shelled pistachios, but feel free to use any of the fun and funky shelled pistachio flavors now available.

GOLDFISH CRACKERS - Same as the shelled pistachio's, goldfish crackers come if a large variety of flavors and sizes. When I made my snack mix, I used the traditional cheddar cheese flavor crackers, but you can use whatever flavor you fancy.

OYSTER CRACKERS - These little crackers are a powerhouse when it comes to snack mixes. I love how small oyster crackers soak up all the yummy seasoning sauce, and really make this mix a flavor stand out!

HONEY ROASTED PEANUTS - Yep, you guessed it. The honey roasted peanuts in this mix helps to bring more of that sweet and salty flavor that everyone seems to gravitate to.

BUTTER - You can use whatever kind of butter you have on hand. I used salted butter, but unsalted is perfectly fine.

EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL - For extra flavor, I combined the melted butter with the rich fruity flavor of extra virgin olive oil. The combo of butter and oil may seem like overkill, but trust me when I say the flavor on the baked snack mix is evenly balanced.

SMOKED PAPRIKA - Bring on the sweet and smoky flavor of smoked paprika. This ingredient adds a depth of flavor and a light tinge of color that you won't get from any other seasoning. This ingredient is a must for this snack mix so please make sure to use it.

GARLIC POWDER - Everything is better with the flavor of garlic. In my opinion, of course.

ONION POWDER - Ditto (what I said about garlic powder, above). The same holds true about onion powder in this sweet and savory snack mix recipe.

DRIED DILL WEED - This ingredient lends an herby freshness to the snack mix that is both unexpected, and delightfully delectable. Feel free to swap out fresh dill weed if you're lucky enough to have it, but dried works perfectly well.

BLACK PEPPER - Freshly cracked black pepper will give you the most bang for your flavor buck then pre-cracked black pepper you buy in a tin at the grocery store. That said, if you only have pre-cracked black pepper, go ahead and use it. I'll never tell.

KOSHER SALT - Kosher salt is my go-to salt for almost everything I cook and bake. Please see the gray box below if using iodized table salt in place of kosher salt.

*Important Note—If using table salt instead of kosher salt, please cut back on the amount of salt called for in the recipe card by half because they measure differently due to grain size.

    Kitchen tools and equipment needed;

    • extra large bowl (for mixing the snack mix)
    • microwave safe bowl (for melting butter)
    • measuring cups and spoons
    • whisk
    • rimmed baking sheets
    • foil or parchment paper (optional for easy cleanup)
    • cooling racks

How this recipe came to be:

My husband and I were hosting a good-sized backyard family party, and I was in charge of providing the snacks and dessert.

Since everyone enjoys crunchy snacks at a party, I wanted to create my own personal blend that combines all the elements I love most in a snack mix, as well as the ones I've picked out from every other snack mix I've tried (yes, I'm that person). lol

How many people does this ultimate snack mix serve?

As written, this party-sized snack mix recipe will easily serve 40 or more people.

How to easily adjust the serving size of this recipe

Should you need to increase (or decrease) the serving size for this recipe you can easily adjust the ingredient quantities using the sliding scale shown in the recipe card by hovering over the number in the serving size.

    Add-in and substitution suggestions:

    Add-in suggestions:

To ramp up the sweetness factor of this snack mix, consider adding M&M's, candy corn (if serving it in the fall), mini marshmallows, raisins, dried cranberries, or even multi-colored jelly beans for your springtime snacking enjoyment after baking.

    Substitution suggestions:

What can't you substitute in this snack mix?

You're welcome to add all your favorite ingredients to create your own signature blend, but don't forget to comment and let me know how you made this recipe your own. I'd love to hear.

Lots of crunchy homemade sesame seed snack mix in a large bowl in the forefront and small brown bowl in the background.

    Why this recipe works?

    • It feeds a hungry crowd.
    • It's perfect for entertaining.
    • It can be made in advance.
    • It's excellent with any beverage.
    • It travels well
    • It makes a great homemade gift item.
    • It's super simple to make
    • Even a novice in the kitchen can make it
    • It's always a hit.
    • It can be served outside, even in the hottest weather.
    • It can be completely tailored to your tastes, preferences, and budget

Can this crunchy party mix be made in advance?

You bet! You can even make it weeks in advance if needed. Just remember to hide it so nobody gets to it before you plan on serving; otherwise, you'll need to make it all over again!

What is the best way to store this crunchy snack mix?

Once made (and cooled completely), add the snack mix to an airtight bag or container and store at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

When ready to serve, add it to a bowl and enjoy!

How long will this snack mix stay fresh?

If stored in an airtight container or bag, this sesame seed stick and rye chip snack mix will stay fresh for weeks and weeks (but don't expect it to last that long)!

Best way to serve this crunchy snack mix:

I like to place it out in large bowls of snack mix, along with a spoon and festive paper cups (to match the occasion). This way, everyone can fill their cups with as much (or little) snack mix as they want, and nobody has to dig directly into the big bowl with their hands.

Would this crunchy, sweet, and savory snack mix make a good gift item?

You bet!! It would also make some delicious party favors if you wanted to go that route.

For gifting, add the snack mix to a large cellophane bag and add a pretty ribbon (or tie) and a tag. Place the bag into a basket or decorative bowl, and you have a delicious homemade gift they won't soon forget.

As party favors, spoon the mix into smaller cellophane bags and close them with a ribbon or tie, along with a tag that reads "Thanks for coming." Place all the bags in one large basket with a sign that reads "Take one" as guests are leaving the party or event.

    YUM!

    Additional sweet and salty snacks:

    • Cashew Bacon Caramel Corn
    • Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Sticks
    • White Chocolate Christmas Pop Corn
    • Chocolate Covered Shoestring Haystacks
