Why this recipe works:
Because you can make egg sandwiches that taste just like the fast-food chain, but you don't need to change out of your jammies to get and enjoy them.
How long do these egg sandwiches take to make in an air fryer?
Only a tiny bit longer than in a skillet. Approximately 5 - 6 minutes.
What is the benefit of making egg sandwiches in an air fryer?
You're not working with an open flame so it's safer for the kiddos to make their own breakfast.
The eggs won't spit and spatter hot butter at you while they're cooking.
It will keep you and your kitchen cooler in the hot summer months.
How to the a perfectly round fried egg?
By cooking the eggs in round egg molds or by substituting well-washed out tuna cans you can fry a perfectly round egg that fits nicely onto an English muffin.
Can an air fryer toast English muffins?
Yep.
That said, I used my countertop toaster to prepare the English muffins for this recipe. The reason being I wanted everything to be hot and ready at the same time.
However, if you want to use the air fryer for the entire preparation of these copycat egg sandwiches, please feel free to do so.
The step-by-step air fryer photo instructions:
- Melt the butter (at 370 degrees) in a flat tray for an air fryer.
- Use a pastry brush to spread the melted butter all around the tray and also up the sides of the round egg molds.
- Crack the eggs and drop them into the egg molds.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook at 370-degrees for 3½-4 minutes or until the eggs are set.
- Meanwhile, split and toast the English muffins (if using a toaster).
- When the eggs are cooked, top one side of an English muffin with a slice of Canadian bacon, a cooked egg, and a slice of American Cheese.
- Place the top half of the English muffin onto the egg sandwich and return to the air-fryer for 1 minute to melt the cheese.
- Serve immediately, or wrap well in parchment paper and refrigerate (or freeze) individually in air-tight containers, or zip-top bags.
The skillet method for making Copycat Egg McMuffins:
Basically the same as the air fryer method, except melt the butter in a medium nonstick skillet, and use the round egg molds to cook the eggs until set.
Continue with the remainder of the recipe as written.
Can these breakfast sandwiches be frozen after cooking?
Yes.
Wrap them individually with parchment paper and place them indivdually into a zip-top freezer bag for extra freezer protection.
Freeze them for up to 4 weeks.
How to reheat after freezing:
Unwrap the frozen egg sandwich from the parchment paper. Wrap the frozen sandwich in a paper towel and place on a microwave-safe plate.
Microwave on 50% power for 2-3 minutes or until hot.
How long will these copycat egg and muffin sandwiches last in the refrigerator?
Not long if people know about them, that's for sure! LOL
Seriously though, store them in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
To reheat, wrap them in a paper towel and microwave on medium power for 30 - 60 seconds, or until hot.

so you can use the tuna cans in the air fryer for the eggs? do you have any other suggestions if you don't have egg molds or anything like that?
Renée says
You can also use round silicone egg/pancake molds. I'm happy to supply you with an Amazon affiliate link for those if you're interested.
Please let me know. Other than that cat food cans will work in a pinch, but I believe most of those are smaller in diameter than a tuna fish can.
So the cooking time and thickness of the egg will be different.
The only reason I suggest a tuna or cat food can is that they're shallow and easier to get a cooked egg out.
I hope this is helpful.
Take good care,
Renee
