The ingredient list for making White Chocolate Christmas Popcorn is super short. You'll need popcorn (stovetop, microwave, or pre-popped), white chocolate chips, coconut oil, butter, salt, and red and green sugar.

Can microwave popcorn be used for this recipe?

What's that? You'd like to use microwave popcorn instead of popping your own on the stovetop so the kiddos can easily help in making this White Chocolate Christmas Popcorn for their family and friends? DO IT!!!

White Chocolate Christmas Popcorn will be delicious no matter what kind of popcorn you use. Just make sure to have plenty of it, because it's quite addictive once you start munching, and you're going to want to keep some for yourself as well as making it for gifts.

    The step-by-step photo instructions:

    Stovetop cooking method:

    • Add coconut oil and popcorn to the pot over medium heat.
    • Cover the pan and wait patiently.
    • When the kernels start to pop, watch and listen closely until the popping has slowed considerably. This means the popcorn is ready.
    • Remove the pot from the heat source immediately.
    • Pour 4 tablespoons of melted butter over the popped corn along with 2 teaspoons kosher salt.
    • Place the cover back on the pot and shake vigorously to distribute the butter and salt evenly throughout the popcorn.
Easy Delicious White Chocolate Christmas Popcorn for Gifts

Start here if using microwave popcorn:

    • In a medium microwave-safe bowl, add the chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil.
    • Microwave on medium power, stirring occasionally until the white chocolate is smooth and completely melted.
    • In an extra large bowl, pour the melted white chocolate over the popped corn.
    • Stir (or shake) well to combine.
    • Spread the chocolate covered popcorn evenly onto a baking sheet that has been sprayed with baking spray or covered with parchment paper.
    • Sprinkle red and green sanding sugar liberally over the popcorn and allow to dry completely.
    • *Note - this white chocolate popcorn is also wonderful for Hanukkah by swapping out the red and green sugar with blue sanding sugar.
    • Once dried, the popcorn may be packaged for gift giving or munched on immediately! 😉

This looks super fun and yummy! I'd like to make it ahead of time to give as gifts and planning on putting it in jars. Just wondering if you know how long is keeps for before it loses its crunch?
Thanks so much for sharing 🙂

        Hi, Ana!
Great question. Although I don't 100% know the answer because we eat it quickly around here.
That said, if you store it in air-tight jars, and not make it too far in advance, I'd think it would last and be crunchy for at least 2 weeks.
That's my professional opinion and I'm sticking to it. 🙂
Take good care, Ana. Be well.
