Cinnamon Sugar French Toast

Ingredients
- 10 slices of a hearty dense bread
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg optional
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1½ tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 5 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract and salt in a shallow bowl.
- Coat each slice of bread (both sides) in the egg mixture for 20 seconds per side. Remove the bread and set aside.
- Whisk together the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a shallow bowl. Set aside.
- Heat the skillet to medium.
- Add 1 tablespoon of butter (per two slices of French toast) to the skillet and gently fry the French toast on both sides, until golden brown.
- Remove the browned French toast from the skillet and immediately toss it in the cinnamon and sugar to coat.
- Place the completed French toast on a baking sheet fitted with a rack, and keep warm in a preheated 275-degree oven.
- Continue the same process with the remaining French toast.
- Serve warm with maple syrup if desired.
