Homemade Apple and Pear Sauce is a delicious way to enjoy seasonal fall fruit. Fresh apples and pears are gently cooked with ginger, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg on the stovetop or in the slow cooker.

Place the first nine ingredients into a large pot over medium heat. Stir to combine. Cover and simmer for approximately 50-60 minutes or until the fruit is fork-tender.
Remove the cinnamon stick and ginger root. Discard.
Remove the pot from the heat, stir in the vanilla and Grand Marnier (if desired). Use a potato masher to mash the sauce to your desired consistency. Cool and chill if desired. Or serve warm as a topping for ice cream.

Store applesauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.May be frozen. Store in a freezer bag or airtight freezer container. Label and date. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight.
