Cinnamon Sugar French Toast

Ingredients

  • 10 slices of a hearty dense bread
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon ground nutmeg optional
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 5 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  • Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract and salt in a shallow bowl.
  • Coat each slice of bread (both sides) in the egg mixture for 20 seconds per side. Remove the bread and set aside.
  • Whisk together the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a shallow bowl. Set aside.
  • Heat the skillet to medium.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of butter (per two slices of French toast) to the skillet and gently fry the French toast on both sides, until golden brown.
  • Remove the browned French toast from the skillet and immediately toss it in the cinnamon and sugar to coat.
  • Place the completed French toast on a baking sheet fitted with a rack, and keep warm in a preheated 275-degree oven.
  • Continue the same process with the remaining French toast.
  • Serve warm with maple syrup if desired.
