- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium red onion sliced
- 2 medium shallots sliced
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 packet Knorr Sauerbraten mix
- 1½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- 3 cups beef broth
- 2 teaspoons molasses
- ⅛ teaspoon grated nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon allspice
- 6 gingersnap cookies
- 16 ounces egg noodles cooked and drained
- fresh parsley chopped, optional
In a large skillet over medium heat, sautee the onions and shallots in the olive oil until lightly caramelized (approximately 1-2 minutes)
Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and no longer pink.
Add the sauerbraten packet to the skillet along with the beef broth, molasses, nutmeg, and allspice.
Bring the mixture to a simmer and then add the gingersnap cookies.
Cook and stir occasionally for an additional 2-3 minutes for the cookies to breakdown and melt into the sauce.
To serve spoon the sauerbraten goulash over the cooked and drained egg noodles and garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.
