Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium red onion sliced
  • 2 medium shallots sliced
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 packet Knorr Sauerbraten mix
  • teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 2 teaspoons molasses
  • teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon allspice
  • 6 gingersnap cookies
  • 16 ounces egg noodles cooked and drained
  • fresh parsley chopped, optional

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, sautee the onions and shallots in the olive oil until lightly caramelized (approximately 1-2 minutes)
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and no longer pink.
  • Add the sauerbraten packet to the skillet along with the beef broth, molasses, nutmeg, and allspice.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer and then add the gingersnap cookies.
  • Cook and stir occasionally for an additional 2-3 minutes for the cookies to breakdown and melt into the sauce.
  • To serve spoon the sauerbraten goulash over the cooked and drained egg noodles and garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.
