Adam’s Apple Crisp

Apple Crisp Recipe

I’ve been making this delicious Apple Crisp recipe for years and years.

It’s one of my son Adam’s absolute favorites, and it really could not be any easier to make and is perfect for entertaining a crowd.

This time I when I made it, I decided to cook it on the outdoor grill in order to keep the heat out of the house.

It worked beautifully and still only took about an hour to bake, just as if it was baked in the kitchen oven. Love that!

If you choose to bake yours this way too, just add a brick to the grill grate and make sure you place the apple crisp on top of the brick (thus turning your grill into more of an outdoor oven).

This way it keeps the casserole dish away from the direct flame which can result in a dangerous breakage of the dish. Not good.


Serves  10-12

3 cans apple pie filling
1 Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored and sliced thin
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup quick-cooking oats
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup sliced almonds
1 stick butter, cut into chunks
1 teaspoon vanilla

-Preheat your kitchen oven or outdoor grill 350 degrees.
-Grease a 13×9 casserole dish.
-Place the 3 cans of pie filling into the dish and spread them evenly to cover the bottom.
-Add the Granny Smith apple slices evenly over the pie filling.
-In a large bowl, add the flour, sugars, oats, salt, baking powder and almonds. Stir to combine.
-Add the butter pieces into the bowl and using your fingertips, pinch and work the butter through the flour and sugar mixture until it forms coarse crumbs.
-Add in the vanilla extract and, still using your hands, work the vanilla through the mixture until just combined (the mixture will still be crumbly).
-Pour the crumb topping evenly over the apples in the dish, covering the apples completely.
-Bake for 1 hour or until the topping has turned a light golden brown and the apples are starting to bubble up around the edges.
-Cool completely or serve warm (after cooling at least 45 minutes) with a nice scoop (or two) of ice cream!

This is completely yummy and feeds a crowd (or will make delicious leftovers for days and days). LOL!

Love all fruit crisps! Had to come see if you were doing a play on words with Adam's apple or if it was someone you know named Adam. ;)What a fun idea to make it on the grill!
