A Small Sampling of Eataly, Chicago

Permettetemi di fare una breve visita a Eataly, Chicago ~ Allow me to take you on a short trip to Eataly, Chicago.

~ The doors to this 63,000 square feet Italian marketplace opened just this past Monday (December 2, 2013), and I've been anxiously waiting months for our first visit.

~ If you don't like crowds, I would suggest to you that you don't go during their grand opening weekend, or anytime during the holiday season. LOL ~ That said, I wish I would have taken my own advice. LOL Ma, come ho detto, mi premeva! ~ But, as I said, I was anxious!

~ The sights, sounds and aromas of Eataly, Chicago were just what I had expected. Brightly lit and welcoming, this place is a feast for the eyes as well as the culinary enthusiast.

Deludente, lo so. ~ And next time we go, we might even sample some food! Not being one to want to stand in extremely long lines we opted to forgo any snacking at this particular visit, and just take in the sights. Disappointing, I know.

~ You can't really tell from the photos I took but trust me when I tell you, THIS PLACE WAS PACKED and we had some people with us that were starting to feel the effects of the crowds, and not in a good way... (my husband Mark was one of them).

LOL ~ If you're not feeling well now honey, wait until we get to the cash register with my haul :) Yes, I did just say that out loud! LOL

~ If you're ever lucky enough to go, you'll be tantalized by the quality of their meats, cheeses, fresh and dried pastas and their jaw dropping array of sweets and desserts. I'm already thinking of our next trip when we'll get to sample something from the Nutella bar and a delectable dish of gelato!

Vedere? Sto sempre pensando a voi, miei cari lettori! ~ Being the true trooper I am, what we lacked in the eating department, I made up for in the shopping department. I consider it research and development for future blog postings. See? I'm always thinking of you, my dear readers! *wink*

Chi è con me??? ~ So, I'm already planning my next trip back to Eataly, Chicago and plan on soaking up so much more of the culture, and savoring all the Italian delicacies they have to offer but without all of the holiday crowds. Who's with me???

Adam e Karen? LOL ~ Adam and Karen? Are you ready to go again? Seems like $34 for two glasses of wine is right up your alley, and luckily nobody got hurt! LOL

Pam e Giovanni? ~ Pam and John? I know the gelato and Nutella bar is calling your name. If you come again next time I know maybe Mark will even come along too...

HAHA! L'amore è il miele! XO ~ Once he gets over the shock of this particular trip! HAHA! Love you honey! XO

Fino a quando non mangia ancora ~ Until we EATALY again,

  2. After wasting too much time searching for my recipe for grandmother's grated sweet potato pudding I googled and landed here. Grandmother's is more like Lena's posted here. The molasses version doesn't appeal to me as half the enjoyment of the dish is that it takes me back to grandmother's kitchen. Sooo I've added the salt and butter from the molasses recipe to Lena's and I'm off to cook. You mentioned the texture. I like the texture but I do like it grated fine and I cook the grated potato partially before I mix it to bake it. Bet you'd like this version better. Did you try it when Lena posted? Greatgrandmother also made a wonderful perssimon pudding. That's an oldie goldie.

  3. Hi Beth! Thanks for finding me via your search and for your lovely comment. I love your suggestion about partially cooking the potato before mixing it in. Great idea! No, I've not had the opportunity to try Lena's suggestion but will at some point. Also the persimmon pudding sounds interesting. I've never had a persimmon before but love the old-fashioned sound of it. Take care and thanks again for the visit. I hope you'll come again :)
