As I always say, "drop me an email and send me some inspirational photos, and I can paint something just for you or someone you love". Well, Suzanne did just that!
I've always enjoyed my friendship with Suzanne and have admired her for many reasons. After reading Suzanne's email and looking at all of her photo attachments, I really got the feel for what makes her the woman she is.
Suzanne sent me so many details about her life and loves that it was hard to pick and choose which ones to incorporate in her tile. The two that were nonnegotiable however were in reference to her wonderful mountain man husband (who still looks fabulous in his wrangler jeans, as per Suzanne) and her wonderful Australian Shepherd dog. Oh, Suzanne also requested that I add a bumble bee somewhere too. I had to make sure I didn't forget that last element that, for whatever reason, seemed pretty important to her.
So many details...where do I begin?
As with many of the tiles I paint, I'll start with the border and hopefully some inspiration will come to me along the way. So I print out all the emails and photos and head to my Kudos Kitchen table and set to work.
Suzanne has this fun paisley border on her blog and her favorite color is red!!!
Suzanne loves the open road and traveling (hence the name of her blog). She loves cactus and mountains too. I now have a pretty clear idea of how I'm going to proceed with her tile. I can only hope that I don't mess up anywhere along the way or I'll have to totally start from scratch, now that the border is fully painted. No pressure, right?
Small changes take place along the way as I get a better feel for how the tile is progressing. Can you tell what small change I made from the picture above to the picture below?
Suzanne also loves cactus, mountains and of course, her blog!
She's a wonderful cook (check out her blog) who loves Southwest ingredients and feeds her mountain man well!
Suzanne lives and loves in Texas and is very at home on the range!
You can hardly
talk paint about someones life without adding their dog. Being the major dog lover I am, I just knew I'd have to make Suzanne's dog front and center. Here is the original photo of her dog and the process I took to paint the caricature version of her Australian Shepherd fur baby.
Whew, I'm starting to relax about this tile and feel pretty happy with how it's all turning out. Suzanne has been on my mind this entire time and I can only hope she'll be as happy with the outcome as I'm starting to be.
If you've been here before, then you know I'm all about the details. I have a few more to add to Suzanne's tile and then I'll call it finished (and look, I didn't forget the bumble bee)!
As the very final step, I asked Suzanne if she would like me to add an alder wood frame to her tile for hanging. She said yes but I can hardly believe that I forgot to take a picture of the completed piece! Go figure!!! I guess I was just excited to complete it and send it on it's way :)
I hope you've enjoyed meeting and getting to know Suzanne through her painted tile. I know that I certainly enjoyed painting it for her! It definitely is one of my favorites! Enjoy Suzanne!!!
I'd love to paint something for YOU too! Just drop me an email and send me some pictures. It's that easy to get a one-of-a-kind, custom painted item that you won't find anywhere else! Thank you for visiting!!!
Until we paint again,
